PV Grid Intertie Systems

We provide the following services for our grid intertie customers:

  • Complete onsite survey.
  • From this information we will generate a cost estimate for your system and a list of the equipment necessary for your job. Any special requirements will be noted here, spec sheets will be provided for larger components
  • PV system design. You will be apprized of details such as panel location, array size, tilt angle, plus the location of the inverter and related components [see sample diagram]
  • We will coordinate all aspects of your job with the building department (including obtaining your permit), and P.G.&E. for the proper permits and approvals
  • Dealing with the C.E.C. to obtain the rebate monies for your project
  • Complete installation of all required safety and performance components of your PV power system
  • Any education you may need to feel knowledgeable about your system is provided as needed, at any time

The order of these services may be changed to suit your needs.

The result is a safe, code compliant, P.G.&E. approved solar electric system with a performance guarantee of five years and a probable lifespan of 20-30 years.

Note: Some fees are normally charged for our complete onsite survey and cost estimate.

Off Grid, "Stand-Alone" Renewable Energy (RE) Systems

The process for assessing, data collecting, designing and installing an off grid system is significantly more involved. The decision to go this route is almost always based on your need to have power at a location which is too far (expensive) to have the local power company install grid power.

How expensive? The likelihood of "going solar" dramatically increases when the utility company tells someone that bringing their power to your home will cost $20 - 25,000.00. And then, you will have to pay for their power and tolerate their outages for the rest of your life.

If you're considering and off-grid system, many times other options exist, most notably microhydro (small stream) and ocassionally wind power. Though solar electric systems are the most common source of power for your renewable energy powered home, other possibilities exist and will be identified and assessed during our onsite survey.

The heart of the design of this RE system is based on a careful assessment of the amount of electricity you will use on an average daily basis. This process is called "Filling out the load sheet". The information from your load sheet will determine the size of your array, inverter(s), battery bank and related components. A somewhat conservative energy lifestyle, efficient appliances and sound building techniques will go a long way to reducing the size and cost of your stand alone system.

We provide the following services (not necessarily in this order) for our off grid customers:

  • Provide a load sheet and copious amounts of help (usually on the phone) to fill it out accurately enough to produce a sound estimate of your electrical power needs.
  • Complete onsite survey and documentation of all potential RE resources.
  • From this information we will generate a cost estimate for your system and a list of the equipment necessary for your job. Any special requirements will be noted here, spec sheets will be provided for larger components.
  • RE system design. You will be apprized of details such as panel location, array size, tilt angle, plus the location of the inverter(s) and related components [see sample diagram]
  • We will coordinate all aspects of your job with the Building Department, including obtaining your permit.
  • Complete installation of all required safety and performance components of your RE power system
  • Any education you may need to feel knowledgeable about your system is provided as needed, at any time.
  • If you wish to employ my services to maintain your RE system over the years (or repair past warranty expirations), this may be an option.

Note: Some fees are normally charged for our complete onsite survey and cost estimate.
